Year 3/4 Chillagoe Camp
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
We’re excited to share a recap of our recent school camp, which was filled with incredible experiences and memorable moments. Here’s a look back at the adventures we embarked upon and the highlights of our trip!

Our adventure began with the Savannahlander departing from the Dimbulah train station at 11:15 AM, heading towards Almaden. The scenic train ride set the tone for what was to come. Upon arriving in Almaden, our parent volunteers picked up the students and drove them to Chillagoe. By 3:30 PM, we were ready for our first major activity: the Cathedral Cave tour. The awe-inspiring formations within the Royal Arch Cave left everyone in amazement. We wrapped up our day by arriving back at the Chillagoe Observatory and Eco Lodge, where we settled in and prepared for the days ahead. Whilst our dinner was being prepared, we started our bird spotting competition. Later that evening we were invited to attend an astronomy show. This show was absolutely remarkable, we even saw the 23 satellites that were launched be Elon Musk, they were traveling so close together they looked like a comet's tail.

Thursday was a day packed with exploration and creativity. The morning started with a fascinating tour of the Trezkin Cave at 9:00 AM. Students were then divided into two groups for the next activity. Group 1 explored Donna Cave while Group 2 took a picturesque walk to Balancing Rock. After switching activities, everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch back at the Eco Lodge.
The afternoon was filled with creativity as we visited Chillagoe State School for a marble painting session. A big thank you to the Kindy - 2 Teacher Mrs Kelly for organizing the session and Melissa at the Chillagoe Hub for organizing the Chillagoe marble. The students had a fantastic time expressing their artistic talents. On our way back to the lodge we stopped by the Chillagoe Information Hub before heading back to the Eco Lodge. The afternoon was spent relaxing, playing some backyard cricket and some board games. We finished a long hot day with a movie night and some popcorn, a perfect end to a day of exploration and creativity.

Our final day began with a visit to the historic Chillagoe Smelters at 7:30 AM. It was an eye-opening experience that provided insight into the area’s rich history. We returned to the lodge for a delicious bacon and egg breakfast and to pack up camp. By 10:30 we bid farewell to the Eco Lodge and began our journey back to school.
The camp was a tremendous success, filled with learning, laughter, and lasting memories. We want to thank everyone who donated money/food/items to our camp. We want to thank our parent volunteers for their support and enthusiasm, which contributed to making this trip so special.
